Number one: Saddle stitch binding. This method is perhaps the simplest way to bind books in our time, and the one that you will see almost everyday. This method is commonly used to bind notebooks, brochures, pamphlets, and other small books. A book that is stapled at the center two or three times is nothing but saddle stitched, wherein the saddle refers to the center of the folded papers where it is stapled. In order to do this method of book binding, you should keep a stack of papers and cover together, and then make holes with a sharp object on the spine. You can make two holes nearer to the edges of the spine, and then stitch with a strong thread. You can also choose to make three or four holes, and then stitch accordingly, in order to hold the book together nicely.

Number two: Hardcover binding. This method of binding books is more commonly seen in encyclopedias, thick books, and diaries. In this method, a rigid or thick cover is stitched in the spine or attached with the help of a special glue. Books that are hard bound are more protected than others, and so they usually last much longer. These types of books are perfect for people who love collecting books, or for those who own a personal library. The result of this style of binding is well worth the effort, as the final product is beautiful and will be well protected.

Number three: Paperback book binding. As the name implies, a paperback book has a cover that is much like paper. Although it is thicker than the inner pages, the cover does not offer the same protection to pages as a hardcover does. This method of book binding is most commonly seen in all novels, some comic books, and in some textbooks.

These are just three book binding methods that are used today.
