Book Review: Science of Survival, Prediction of Human Behavior by L
. Ron Hubbard
The book Science of Survival, The Prediction of Human Behaviour, written by L. Ron Hubbard, is the follow up to Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health. It is an epic book of over 700 pages, the largest Scientology or Dianetics book.
Primarily the book is how to conduct the Dianetics counselling, known as auditing. This book takes over from where the earlier Dianetics book leaves off. It was written in 1951 in Cuba, where L. Ron Hubbard went to write it.
The book first goes through details on how to determine what type of personality a person is, and how then to work out what kind of Dianetics counselling they will need.
The purpose of Dianetics has been to elevate a person up to a state of being known as Clear. While the definition of Clear might be described briefly as being where a person does not suffer from past actions and conditions that they have found themselves in, and where they do not react adversely, and they can think very clearly without bad emotion impairing their judgement.
The book is also excellent in that it also has a chart whereby you can plot a person's personality, and from that you can predict with accuracy where the person falls, with certain characteristics. Such as, will the person be trustworthy? Will he be courageous? You can see who handles truth well, and who twists it. You can also predict a person's ability to handle others, and predict the means they will use to work with people.
L. Ron Hubbard also investigates a person's hypnotic level and how to raise a person out from it. Now, here is also a blockbuster of an expose. He exposes in 1951 when he wrote this book the pain-drug-hypnosis experiments (Mind Control) that the US government was using as a means of warfare. Note this was not 1977 which was when the USA Congress investigated and closed down these experiments, but 1951, a quarter of a century earlier. As L. Ron Hubbard wrote in Science of Survival, "Until Dianetics, the widespread use of this practice was unsuspected simply because there was no means by which one could even detect the existence of pain-drug-hypnosis." The book does offer a way to get a person out from having has this applied to him, through the use of Dianetics.
The book also introduces such philosophic spiritual tools as the Tone Scale, a means of establishing how much free spirit a person has. Plus, the book shows how to easily establish understanding with a person. And last, how to diagnose and counsel any case before a Dianetics counsellor.
The book packs a hefty glossary of over a hundred pages, and a good index. The book is used for some very central Scientology courses today. It is not a beginning book but some people have started by reading this book first. It keeps the reader's interest up until the end, and it makes a naturally compatible book after Dianetics.
