Aldwych Theatre is in the city of West Minister London and belongs to the group of West End theatres
. It was initially built as a pair along with Waldorf Theatre, which is known today as Novello Theatre. It was funded by Sir Arthur Seymour Hicks and Charles Frohman, the noted American impresario while it was designed by W.G.R. Sprague and built by Walter Wallis.
It was in Georgian Style and intricately decorated. The newly developed Aldwych crescent was chosen as its location and derived its name from the same as well. It was opened on 23rd December 1905 for the common public and Blue Bell productions adapted version of Hicks classical pantomime, Bluebell in Fairyland was the first show to be played here. In 1960 Royal Shakespeare Company selected this as their base for London productions and Aldwych Theatre London remained there home for coming two decades. It was listed among Grade II rating in 1971 and currently has a seating capacity of for 1200 audiences in all its three levels.
Currently running show at Aldwych is Matthew White directed Top Hat. Other notable works from Mathew White are Sweet Charity and Little Shop of Horrors. The show has been presented in arrangements with RKO Pictures LLC, Warner Bros Theatre Ventures Inc. and the Irving Berlin Music Company. It features winner of the BBC reality show Strictly Come Dancings Tom Chambers and notable stage actress Summer Strallen. The story of the show has been adapted from the classical film based on dance with the same name. The songs come from Irving Berlin that includes Lets Face the Music and Dance, Isnt It a Lovely Day to Be Caught in the Rain and Top Hat White Tie and Tails. Chambers play one of the protagonists Jerry Travers; he portrays an American tap dancer who has arrived in London for his West End debut. He is bewildered with the impressive beauty of Dale Tremont played by Strallen. Stunned with her astonishing appearance, he realises that she is the lady of his life. To win her art he moves all across the Europe chasing her.
