By incorporating a few simple tricks, you will be able to bypass time-consuming special
effects and multimedia files, hide your rarely used sites and store all of your favorites to achieve the fastest possible results.
Switch on the Personalized Favorites menu (Tools Internet Options Advanced) and Internet Explorer will hide rarely-used sites when you click on Favorites. To see the whole list, just click on the double arrow at the bottom of the list.
Many ISPs provide proxy servers, which speed up access to your favorite sites. Check your ISPs help page for details and enter the information in Tools Internet Options Connections ~ Settings Proxy Server Advanced.
Quickly change the default programs for editing Web pages, handling email or browsing newsgroups in Tools Internet Options Programs.
Disable Page Transitions in Tools Internet Options Advanced to prevent Internet Explorer from displaying time-consuming special effects as you move between pages on the Internet.

Change the Search settings to 'Display results and go to the most likely site'; if you type text in the address bar, the browser will then carry out a Web search and try to find the site you're looking for.
Make Internet Explorer load your favorite site every time you run it by specifying the Web address in Tools Internet Options * General Home Page Address.
If you visit the same sites regularly, allocate space for the browser cache (Tools Internet Options General Temporary Internet Files * Settings) to store logos, text and pages. These can be loaded from your hard disk in future.
You can sort the History toolbar into something much more useful by clicking on the View drop-down and selecting By Most Visited. This re-orders the list to display your favorite destinations first.
Get Internet Explorer to automatically download updates to your favorite pages by synchronizing them. To do this, click on Favorites * Add to Favorites, click on Make Available Offline and then click Customize.
Use the Offline Favorite Wizard to specify how Internet Explorer should deal with the site you want it to update. For example, you can tell IE6 not to download the contents of any of the external links.
You can use the Favorites Synchronize command to perform updates, or get Internet Explorer to do it automatically. To do this, click on 'I would like to create a new schedule'.
Set the frequency of updates (in this case, every day) and the time of day that you want Internet Explorer to check the site for updates. Click the 'If my computer is not connected' box to make the whole process automatic.
Store your most frequently used sites in the Favorites Links folder - they'll then appear on Internet Explorer Links toolbar and you can access them with a single mouse click.
