Bop It! Xt Game - Flick It, Spin It, Twist It, Compare It!

For the uninitiated, Bop It! XT is played on a steering wheel-like device and is

a wicked test of your ability to follow instructions and hand eye coordination. It differs from its previous incarnation in that the need to shout at the device has been discarded while a new shake feature has been introduced. So, how is Bop It! XT played?

Basically, the unit has four different-coloured extremities that can variously be spun, flicked, twisted or pulled. The player must do as the device instructs. There is also the Bop It button in the middle and the shake feature. (The shake feature can get very frustrating so fortunately Hasbro allows you to turn it off). When you turn on the unit, it tells you exactly what to do and you play the game to the musical rhythms that it produces; as the speed of the rhythm increases, you have to react faster to stay in the game. Bop It! XT will also make the occasional appropriate comment as you struggle on.

Bop It! XT has several play modes, including Solo, Pass It and Party. It has four playing levels starting with Novice, which in itself is very challenging for anyone who has never played before. When you achieve a score of 100 (if you are good enough, that is), then you proceed to the next level. But get it wrong and Bop It! XT will have a few kind words for you!

So how do you play Bop It! XT? The concept is simple. You hold the device in your hands and wait for instructions. The music starts and Bop It! XT may call out Spin it in which case you have to spin the wheel at one of its extremities. Pull it, and you have to pull at one of the other extremities. Bop it, means you have to strike the device in the middle. And so it goes on with an ever-increasing tempo until you are either too slow or you fail to follow the instruction properly. Then you lose and either have to start again or hand it over to the next player.

Be warned, though. Bop It! XT can get pretty frantic and frustrating. You might just want to throw it at something when the going gets tough. But one thing is for sure the game is addictive and you really wont want to put it down. If your children are playing in Party mode, youll have the perfect excuse to play yourself but will you give it back?

You will love watching the children play but you may not enjoy the sounds that accompany their efforts. Fortunately, Hasbro has come to the rescue by incorporating a headphone jack so you dont have to listen. On the other hand, the Bop It! XT can also be hooked up to your speaker system so you may want to leave the room!

This game is going to be one of the hits of Christmas 2011. You will need to buy early to be sure of getting one. The cheapest Bop It! XT retails at just under 18 while its RRP is 29.99.
