I'm the guy you may have seen complain about sliding miter saws in other venues. I have tried many saws, but they all had the same problems. First, the blade was never perfectly aligned with its path (heel), and there was no way to adjust it. The resulting cut would be OK in some places, but not OK in others. Secondly, the slide always had vibration. This would impart a less than smooth cut.
I have been waiting to try this new design; it just looked like it had to work the way it should. I have it now, and I absolutely love it! It is smooth as silk, with no vibration, and the blade is "almost" perfectly aligned with its path. I am thankful they finally made a miter saw I could appreciate, because I don't think I have too many years left to wait for one to be invented.
I really do recomend this saw. My back can't lift it without some help, but that only had to happen once. Now that it is sitting on its TB4 gravity stand it moves easily. Go get one!
I have had this saw set up in my home work shop for about a month and I love it. After setting up the saw and tweaking the adjustments, the saw performs beautifully. Every cut is dead-on accurate within the limits of my ability to measure. I'm still amazed at the cross-cut capacity of this saw -- at 90-degrees I cross cut a 13" glue-up last weekend! My only disappointments are: (1) the dust collection (or rather, the lack of effective dust collection). Even with the saw hooked to a shop vac, most of the saw dust is still sprayed around the back of the saw. (2) I would have liked a laser to show the cut-line. At the end of the day, this saw gives me terrific cross-cut capacity with excellent accuracy, which is what I needed. Better dust collection and a laser would make a great saw even better.
I went to my local contractor tool store to purchase the Makita slider. After seeing this baby, I lost interest in the Makita. I liked the older Bosch, but there were several things that bugged me about it. The detent override was cumbersome, as was the bevel detent knob. The depth stop was a bad design as well. Bosch addressed all of these problems with their latest saw. The glide motion is amazingly smooth. I have only had it for a couple of weeks, but so far, I couldn't be happier.
I've had this saw for about a month now, and I just had to express my extreme satisfaction with this product. Amazon provided the best price on the market for a first-class miter saw, and the entire Amazon experience was great as always. Although I opted for the two-day express delivery, no one was home to sign for it on the carrier's first two attempts. Initially, I was worried about such a large product being shipped and the additional handling by the carrier increased my fear that the saw would be damaged. Although there was normal shipping wear on the box, the saw was packaged very well; not a scratch. The set-up is super easy and the controls are well-thought out.
Since owning the saw I've completed one minor project, but I will soon start work on a pergola.
I did a lot of research before buying this saw, and I'm happy with my choice. If you're considering purchasing the Axial Glide, I'd also recommend the Gravity Rise stand; what a combination. The Bosch engineers deserve an award for such an innovative, tough, and quality product.
