Boston Celtics dominate Milwaukee Bucks to win 1974 NBA title

In the early 1970s, the NBA Playoffs were dominated by the likes of the New York Knicks and the Los Angeles Lakers. Towards the mid-70s the power started to shift a bit. The Celtics were previously a dominant team in the league and they were ready to come back to the forefront of the scene.

The teams in the playoffs representing the Western Conference were the Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Lakers, Detroit Pistons and Chicago Bulls. While the Lakers were a dominant team in the playoffs the year before, they were just the 4th best team in the Western Conference in 1974. They would square off against the top seeded Milwaukee Bucks in the first round. The other first round matchup would be between the Pistons and the Bulls.

The Lakers were simply no match for the Bucks. The Bucks took the first two games of the series and won the series in 5 games. The Bucks dominated defensively and did not allow the Lakers to score 100 points or more the entire series.

The Pistons and Bulls had a fantastic series. The Pistons jumped out to a 1-0 lead over the Bulls, but the Bulls powered back in games 2 and 3 to take 2-1 lead in the series. The Pistons managed to even things out and the teams alternated wins before the Bulls took home a 2 point win in game 7 to take the series.

The Eastern Conference teams were the Celtics, Buffalo Braves, New York Knicks and Capital Bullets. The matchups would be between the Celtics and Braves and then Capitals against the Knicks.

The Celtics beat the Braves pretty easily. The Braves did manage to take home two victories in the series, but ultimately the Celtics were just too good. The Celtics scored over 100 points in every game during the series.

The Knicks survived a scare from the Bullets in the first round of the playoffs. The Knicks took home the first game, but the Bullets fought back to win the next two games to take the series lead. The Knicks did manage to regain control of the series with wins in games 4 and 5, but the Bullets were not ready to go down easily. The Bullets won the 6th game in convincing fashion over the Knicks. After taking home a 17 point victory many people thought that the Bullets would move on. Ultimately the Knicks were able to get their act back together and they won game 7 to advance to the next round.

The Bucks continued to dominate the playoffs. The Bulls were simply no match for the Bucks and the Bucks brought home 4 victories in a row for a series sweep. The series between the Celtics and Knicks was similar as the Celtics were just too good for the Knicks and brought home the series in 5 games.

The NBA Finals featured the Bucks and Celtics and was a great 7 game series. These teams fought back and forth throughout the series, but ultimately the Celtics came out on top with a victory in game 7 to win the NBA Title.
