Botox And The Good It Does

Botox has been around for several decades already

. It was initially used to treat nerve problems that were focused on the eyes. It is derived from a bacterium that is actually quite lethal if ingested by humans and animals alike. The effect of the derivative from this bacterium is what many people are after. The said effect can actually temporarily freeze the nerves and muscles that are injected with the derivative. With this said, people may wonder how it is supposed to work. If the muscles that create wrinkles do not move, then the wrinkles should be invisible or nonexistent also. It is this premise that has prompted the discovery and development of Botox as a cosmetic to improve appearances and lessen the occurrence of wrinkles.

Advantages

As stated above, the primary role of the bacterium derivative was supposed to treat spasms in the eyes. Other than its initial purpose, it is now more commonly used to arrest the development of wrinkles by temporarily freezing the muscles that make the wrinkles. By doing so, the development of the wrinkles is reduced. Another benefit, which is still under research, is the effect it has on migraines. Doctors have surmised that since it has the ability to prevent muscles, tissues, and nerves from moving, it can also help with this. Studies are also being made on the effect it has on sweat glands. The ability to freeze any form of action or movement might just be able to prevent excessive and embarrassing sweat.

Disadvantages

The temporary relief brought about by this derivative is often seen by many as a disadvantage but many see this as another advantage. Due to its temporary nature, patients need to go back regularly to get another injection or dose. For wrinkles, the effect of Botox may last for just four to six months. As a form of migraine relief, the same disadvantage - losing its effect after a period of time - is viewed as such. The reason why some people think of this disadvantage as the opposite is because they feel that since the effect is temporary, the presence of the derivative in the person's system is not long-lasting. Many believe that this is a boon and consider this a sign that it is safe.

One of the more pressing disadvantages is the fact that it is derived from a deadly bacterium. Many think that because it originates from something that is dangerous, there must be a degree of danger with the use of Botox.
