The 55 points were the most for an NBA rookie since Earl "the Pearl" Monroe scored 56 in 1968.

College basketball fans can also get a glimpse of the action when Georgetown, which begins the Big East conference play on Dec. 31, plays Marquette on Jan. 6. Georgetown players Chris Wright and Henry Sims scored 12 points apiece and Greg Monroe had nine points and a career-high 13 rebounds to lead No. 16 Georgetown over American 73-46 on Dec. 5. Julian Vaughn added 11 points as the Hoyas (6-0) held the Eagles (1-8) to 27 percent shooting from the field. Monroe, a 6-foot-11 sophomore, nearly had his third double-double of the season. Sims, the 6-foot-10 sophomore, had his first game in double figures.

Georgetown went on a 23-7 run late in the first half and took a commanding 34-23 lead by the break. America shot only 30 percent in the first half. The Hoyas continued to dominate the game in the second half. They outscored the Eagles 29-9 and took a 63-32 lead with 7:53 left of the game. It was the third time the Hoyas held a team to fewer than 50 points.

On the other side of the court, Marquette recently lost to North Carolina State 77-73. NCS's Tracy Smith scored 17 of his 19 points in the second half. Jimmy Butler scored 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, while Lazar Hayward added 15 for Marquette (6-2). The Golden Eagles couldn't rally with a late flurry of 3-pointers and were unable to continue their better-than expected start to what is supposed to be a rebuilding year.

In addition, don't miss the Purdue Boilermakers vs. Wisconsin Badgers matchup scheduled to take place on Jan. 9. Recently Chris Kramer and E'Twaun Moore scored 14 points apiece and No. 4 Purdue defeated Buffalo 101-65 on Dec. 5. JaJuan Johnson scored 12 points and Robbie Hummel added 11 for the Boilermakers (7-0). Purdue made six 3s in the first 10 minutes of the second half to help stretch a 45-26 halftime lead to 80-40. The Boilermakers finished the game with 12 3s and had seven different players who made at least one 3-pointer.

Trevon Hughes had 13 of his 20 points in the second half and added seven rebounds and four assist to lead Wisconsin to a 79-46 victory over Grambling State on Dec. 5. It was the senor point guard's second strong performance, and the Badgers (6-1) didn't show any signs of slowing down after winning consecutive games against then-No. 21 Maryland last week and No. 6 Duke on Dec. 2.
