Branson Museum Honor's Armed Services Veterans
If a grown man tends to remember anything from his childhood with meticulous clarity, it most likely would be something his father told him as a young boy. This is exactly how the story of Fred Hoppe's project developed in Branson, Missouri.
As a young child, Fred Hoppe used to rest on the floor next to his sitting father, eye level with his knee, and listened to all kinds of stories. Particular stories that ended up shaping Hoppe's memories and admiration for his father were those detailing his time in World War II. For this reason, Hoppe grew up praising veterans of war from his father's generation, and wanting to put this honor up on display. Although a renowned sculptor and not a war hero like his father, Hoppe sought to put his talents to use by constructing a statue or monument as a tribute, and began to put the so-called "ball in motion" at the end of the last century.
Hoping for outside investors and grants to help fund the project so dear to his heart, Hoppe was consistently refused and was forced to go it alone; and that he did! From collecting the relics and exhibit materials to interviewing previous war veterans from all past conflicts of the 20th century, not just WWII, and successfully opened the museum's doors in the year 2000. The Veteran's Museum of Branson, located at 1250 West Highway 76, is centrally positioned in Missouri's tourist Mecca.
All veterans of America's Armed Services are represented in this museum, and give, those that maybe were not around during the earlier wars, a realistic glimpse as to what life was like during the international conflicts. The conflicts include World War I, World War II, the Korean Conflict, the Vietnam War, and Operation Desert Storm (the Persian Gulf War). Regardless of whether you have served or not, it is almost impossible not to be moved and inspired by the few who have given up so much for the many.
Visiting the Veteran's Museum of Branson, you'll leave with a familiarity of the proud men and women who were decorated war heroes, wore the traditional military garb, navigated the ships, piloted the plains, and fired the weapons while having the opportunity to meet some! What better way is there to spend some time during your Branson vacation?
The museum contains ten great halls that display all of the wars and conflicts of the twentieth century with era artifacts representing their times with stories. As many war memorial sites, the Veteran's Museum of Branson pays tribute to all of those men and women who honorably passed away during battle with all of their names inscribed throughout the museum walls. This silent tribute contains all those killed in action in the recent 20th century and has 400,000 names from World War II alone.
Staying true to his craft, Fred Hoppe sculpted the centerpiece for the Veteran's Museum of Branson, which now boasts the world's largest memorial bronze sculpture. The incredible work of art features 50 actual-size statues of soldiers storming a beach, while each statue represents a combat soldier from each of the 50 United States. The bronze weighs an unbelievable fifteen tons, measures seventy feet in length, and as homage to his father, Hoppe prominently displays his father as the lead soldier in the artwork.
Always one of the most popular Branson attractions, The Veteran's Museum of Branson is a sure-fire way to have an educational and fun family activity. Also, the museum is open year-round, with the exception of Christmas Day, and has even later hours during the busy summer season for everyone to enjoy! Best of all, if an American service veteran, a befitting discount on admission is applied!
