Working tirelessly often leaves us worn out at the end of the day

, often with so much left unaccomplished. So we push ourselves harder the next day, and the next, and never give ourselves a moment to reset and recharge. The human body is a magnificent machine capable of accomplishing anything, but even it needs a moment to rest.

It may seem that you dont have time during the day to take a break, and so many people use the excuse: Im too busy. But, if you take a few moments to reset (it only takes a minute amongst the 1,440 minutes) to take a break, youll realize that you can accomplish so much more with a clear mind and well body.

Clear your mind

Take a few moments to reset your brain. The human brain is an amazing device, capable of processing information better than any computer in the world, but it still needs a break every now and then. When youve been sitting at a desk for hours and your mind is whirling around work, your brain can become overwhelmed with all the data you receive.


Take a few minutes to sit back and think of something peaceful the sound of the ocean or a warm spring breeze. Our brain clears and resets, just like a computer. Then we can approach our work with a clear mind that can process quickly and efficiently again.

Try a few techniques like taking a moment to listen to some soothing music. While classical styles have been proven to help relax the mind, any music that makes you feel calm and takes your mind away for a moment can definitely help.

You can also sit back and relax. Have a daydream and see yourself where you want to be. A few moments during the many hours of the day can help put your mind at peace, especially when you visualize your ultimate goals.

Take care of your body

While the brain itself is processing all this data, your body is handling everything else. So taking care of your physical body is just as important to incorporate into your power breaks. At about every two hours, your energy levels dip and curve. Keeping the curve from slowing your production will mean that you have to pick your power level back up to a high performance level.

Water is the basic element within our body, so take a moment away from work to re-hydrate yourself. Chemically, water helps remove toxins, it keeps your brain fresh (for computing efficiently), and your body well. Try breaking for a few moments to grab a glass of water. The physical break along with the refreshing water will help keep your energy level up.

Take a few moments to stretch. Sit back from your work and stretch out your fingers, arms, and legs. You want to get your blood moving again so that all that oxygen flows back up into that computing device of yours. It helps keep you from getting stiff- plus stretching your fingers helps to prevent carpal tunnel.

Talk a walk. If youre in an office building, wander around, or you can just get outside and get a breath of fresh air. When you get your body moving, it ensures that everything stays well oiled- and hey- you can plug it into your fitness plans.


Power naps arent just for kindergarteners. Taking a twenty minute power nap during the day can help refresh your mind and body. Everything takes a moment to settle and reboot in preparation to handle the rest of the day. Now be careful because if you over-do it, like snoozing for a couple of hours, youre probably going to feel drowsy and a little behind. Power naps should only be between fifteen to twenty minutes (just like in kindergarten).

So next time youre sitting at your desk, perhaps a little frustrated and busy, take a breather. Get up, get out, and clear your mind so that when you get back to your work, everything will be a little clearer.
