Breast Augmentation Over The Years
When you leave the office after a breast augmentation
, you are going to be excited to see the results of the operation. You can't wait to get a good look at the changes you made to your body. It often takes several weeks for the swelling to subside and then, over the course of the next several months, the full results will be revealed. It is important to note that these results are not made to last for a lifetime. Over the course of your life, there is a chance that you will need to revisit this area of the body and experience another surgery.
The First Operation
During the first breast augmentation, you have an opportunity to explain to the surgeon exactly what you are looking for. Some women are looking to go larger and increase their size with silicon implants. Others use saline to enhance their look. Either way, the manufacturers recognize that implants are not meant to last someone for the rest of her life. Sometimes the implants leak or deflate, requiring new implants. Some women are just looking for a lift to get this part of the body back to its original condition; after having a baby, the body tends to change drastically.
Replacing Implants
When implants fail, patients must undergo another breast augmentation to correct the problem. Some choose to remove the implants completely while others just switch out one set for another. Either way, it is not advisable to just leave them in the body. Also, no one wants to end up with a lopsided look. There is no way to establish a certain date for the life of the implants. Each woman's body is different and so it all depends on how things are going. Some will need to go back for another surgery in a few short years. Others may be able to wait a decade.
Sagging
When it comes to breast augmentation, going bigger often gives a woman added confidence. The new look makes her feel attractive and makes all of her clothes look better. However, after a few years, this area of the body begins to sag. For most women, this is a natural occurrence with or without plastic surgery. It is possible for a surgeon to go in and lift the area, keeping the current implants in place. Again, there is no set time that this procedure needs to be done. Most women just look at their bodies and make the decision to update their look and fix their appearance.
Talk with your plastic surgeon to see how long you can expect your breast augmentation results to last. He or she will be able to advise you about the type of implants you use and what you can do to maintain your new look.
