Though the breast augmentation surgical procedure will differ slightly from patient to patient there are a few things you can expect
. For the most part breast augmentation surgeries are outpatient procedures meaning you will not have an overnight stay at a hospital or other medical facility. General anesthesia is typically used in these types of procedures.
A small incision is made under the breast or by the lower edge of the areola in order to keep scars hidden. Some incisions may be made within the armpit to also ensure scars are not visible. A pocket is then made above or blow the pectoral muscle in which the implant will be placed.
After the implant has been placed the incision is closed and the breasts are wrapped in a dressing which will remain typically for three to five days. The recovery time in the recovery area will vary from patient to patient but typically will only be a few hours. After they are cleared to leave the patient can return home after the surgery.
More complex surgical procedures for breast enhancement will be explained in detail by your surgeon. Every patient is different and may require different procedures based on their medical history and other factors. It is generally a good idea to know exactly what the procedure entails so you can put your mind at ease. Some patients find that visualizing the surgery helps the patient relax.
In addition to knowing the procedure you should know the pre-operative procedures and instructions as well as the post-operative instructions. Following both pre- and post-operative instructions will help minimize the risk of complications. Make sure you speak to your plastic surgeon about all of these things including pre-operative instructions, augmentation procedure and post-operative instructions.
