It's very important that a woman have realistic expectations for the outcomes of the procedure. Most doctors will usually recommend implants that provide a woman with a proportionate look and that will not be so large as to create physical discomfort.

Do your research and ask plenty of questions about the procedure. Know what to expect in regards to scarring and recovery time. Breast augmentation can be one of the most painful procedures and result a difficult recovery. She should be emotionally well adjusted and understand that the breast augmentation procedure has its limitations.

If she is expecting the surgery to make her feel better about other aspects of life, such as relationship or career, she will be disappointed. Women who are the most educated and have the most realistic expectations have usually be found to have the highest levels of patient satisfaction following cosmetic surgery procedures.

Other factors

A patient should be generally in physically good health and not have any serious medical conditions. If they smoke, they will probably be asked to quit for a period of time before and after receiving the surgery. They should not be pregnant or nursing and may want to consider waiting until they are done with childbearing, which may alter the results and require additional surgeries to fix. For the same reason it's best that a woman be at a stable weight, as weight gain and loss can also changes the appearance of her breasts.

Age

In general, women should be 18 years of age for saline implants and 22 years of age for silicone gel implants. Doctors will not typically perform the procedure on girls under 18 years of age who are still developing. However, some will consider it in special cases, for instance when she has breasts that are noticeably different sizes. There is no upper age limit for receiving breast augmentation or other forms of cosmetic surgery as long as a woman meets the other factors.
