Breast Implant Surgery---what You Need To Know
Breast implant surgery is the most common type of cosmetic procedure available today
. It has been proven safe and extremely effective in achieving the results that patients desire. If you are considering this type of enhancement, read on for more clarification on what you can expect from the process.
Breast implant surgery is performed under general anesthesia. It is an outpatient procedure, which means you are able to return home the same day as the operation.
To begin the procedure, the surgeon will place the incision in one of four different sites. If you have chosen the areola technique, the surgeon will open the areola as the entry site. The transaxillary method involves placing the incision in the armpit and feeding the empty implant through to the appropriate area, then filling it. If you opted for an incision under the breast at the natural crease, this is referred to as the inframammary technique, and the TUBA method is where the surgeon enters through the navel.
Next, the breast implants are placed under the chest muscles if you chose the submuscular placement, or over the chest wall muscle, called the subglandular placement. The surgeon then stitches up your incisions and dresses you in a surgical support bra.
You can expect your recovery to last about a week, at least in reference to returning to work. However, it can take nearly a month before you are able to return to the rest of your daily activities, including exercise. It is normal for tenderness to linger for a few more months, and is no cause for concern.
Good candidates for this procedure are those who are dissatisfied with their current bra size, or those with a disproportionate shape that can be corrected with breast implant surgery. If you don't have a history of surgical complications or adverse reactions to anesthesia, you could fare well with this and many cosmetic procedures. Also, those in relatively good health who also fully understand the benefits as well as the limitations of cosmetic techniques are good candidates. It is crucial to bear realistic expectations and to become prepared for the physical changes that will occur.
Schedule a consultation with your cosmetic surgeon if you have further questions regarding breast implant surgery. Be honest about your expectations and concerns and allow your surgeon to guide you through the decision-making process. You could be well on your way to the new you.
