Breast Implants: Breast Feeding After An Implant

What makes a woman a woman? In the most basic sense

, what defines the difference between men and women goes down to our most basic chromosomes and how these affect our bodies. Beyond that definition, however, is the driving force for much of how we live our lives. We define ourselves by certain conventions regarding how we are supposed to act and how we view our roles in society. For women, a great deal of what defines and separates them from men is based upon appearance. Rich full lips, wide hips, and perhaps most importantly, pronounced breasts are widely considered to be hallmarks of what defines a female's appearance. It's no wonder than that when a woman chooses to undergo cosmetic surgery; the areas she may tend to focus on are the areas that define her femininity.

Aside from appearance, the most prominent thing to separate men from women is the woman's role as mother. Carrying a child is of course unique to women, therefore it is logical that motherhood would be a common hallmark for defining femininity.

What does a woman do, however, when her desire to use cosmetic surgery to enhance her femininity corresponds with her desire to become a mother? One of the most common concerns for women who decide to undergo breast augmentation is the concern that they may not be able to breast feed if and when they decide to become mothers. Fortunately, these two paths do not have to conflict with each other, allowing many women to find the best of both worlds.

Feeding after augmentation is not necessarily a problem for most women. The key factor to consider is the state of your nerves following the operation. In some rare instances, nerves in the breasts can be damaged or destroyed during the surgery. It is these nerves that will later be essential to triggering the nursing response after your child is born. Furthermore, some women find that after the operation, their nipples and breasts in general will be excessively sensitive, which in turn will make breast feeding at times difficult and painful.

The best way to ensure that you will be able to breast feed after your surgery is to speak to your doctor about your concerns. Certain types of incisions are much less likely to cause problems down the line. Your doctor should be able to provide the perfect incision for you, and offer you all the advice you need following the surgery. With the help of a trained surgeon, there's no reason you can't experience the full range of feminine hallmarks.
