Brett Butler Shines Despite Obstacles The Reality Of Nascar Racing Sets In For Team, Sponsor And Fan

Nashville April 5th, 2010 As fans sit back and enjoy the thrilling action of NASCAR racing

, many overlook the risks drivers take from the moment they get behind the wheel. This Friday at the Nashville Superspeedway, all were reminded of this when Rick Ware Racing driver Brett Butler was injured while racing his Fuel Doctor Go Green Machine in the Nashville 200.

In the first lap of Saturdays race, another driver hit the wall leaving debris scattered over the track. Following closely behind was #47 Fuel Doctor driver, Brett Butler. While Butler was able to avoid the collision, he did not go unscathed. Unable to circumvent the debris, Butler ran through the wreckage causing a flat tire and some serious damage to his truck. As soon as I got into turn one the right rear tire blew out and so did the firewall explained Butler. The firewall is vital to a driver, not only keeping out debris, but also hazardous heat and fumes, out of the drivers car. Without the firewall, fiberglass from the wreckage flew into Butlers eyes, face and hands.

At lap 40, Butler pulled into the pit for repairs to his truck and to try wipe some of the glass shards from his eyes. Concerned, Butlers family and crew members encouraged Butler to receive medical attention but unwavering Butler returned to the track. Butler could be heard over the radio It hurts real bad, Im hot, my face is cut up, but Im not gonna stop, my job is to support Rick Ware Racing and my sponsor Fuel Doctor. The essence of Brett Butler can be wrapped up in what he said next, Im running this thing to the finish. While he sustained injuries and burns, Butler got in his Go Green Machine and finished the 120 laps with his team, family, fans and sponsors cheering him on.

Courage, skill and determination kept Butler going during the tumultuous race on Friday night. You always ride it out because you never know whats going to happen, Butler said.

Brett was immediately taken to the hospital to receive treatment for carbon monoxide poisoning as well as severe lacerations to his face and hands. Doctors had to vacuum the microscopic fiberglass particles out of Bretts skin and eyes. He also was put on oxygen for days due to the severe levels of carbon monoxide intake. Released hours later, doctors said Butler would make a full recovery. Now home recuperating, Butler is already looking forward to his next race in NASCARs Camping World Series.

Were so grateful Brett is going to be ok stated Mark Soffa, Fuel Doctor USA CEO. Brett embodies the true spirit of a driver he drives with such heart, unrelenting determination, and natural instincts Soffa continued. In the eyes of his sponsors, team and fans Butler is a winner and they eagerly anticipate his return to the tracks in Kansas at the OReilly Auto Parts 250 on May 2nd, 2010. Butlers dedication to racing will certainly help him prevail in the 2010 Series and for years to come.
