Brewfest and the Services Industry in the World of Warcraft

Brewfest is here! I'm sure many of you are celebrating by getting drunk in real life just as much as you are ingame

. One of the main reasons I love holidays is that if you are prepared you can make a lot of gold during them. I was however struggling to find anyway to profit from Brewfest, there's no quests that require items I could sell. There's nothing I could gain with the tokens that I could sell. I couldn't even sell the drops from Coren Direbrew. I couldn't even disenchant the drops from Coren Direbrew. I was almost about to give up when I had a brainwave, there was one way to profit from Brewfest.

If you are a Paladin you could take this opportunity to sell "Hand of Protection! Going for the [drunken stupor] achievement I probably died about 30 times, and faced a repair bill of about 300 gold. I would have more than happily paid a Paladin 20-40g to cast the ability on me as I jumped from somewhere. Walking around near the brewfest locations you can spot someone jumping to their death every few minutes so for a Paladin willing to stand at a peak and yell his services this might be a very profitable experience. Unfortunately I don't have a Paladin character myself so was unable to test out the exact gold/hour this might make. So instead I had a think about the other services that can be offered in WoW.

Dungeon runs for lower characters

Many lower level characters are willing to pay for higher levels to run them through dungeons. Either to power level them or because they are twinks and want certain boss drops that they would struggle to get at their current level. Most people offer 10-40g per run of a dungeon depending on its size however its not uncommon to be offered 100-400g per hour. The rate you get mostly depends on how big the dungeon is and how rich/eager the player is.

Honour grinding

similar to the above run there are lower level characters who are willing to pay for help getting exalted with various factions. Twice this week I've seen level 1 characters asking for a higher level to help them grind rep with Timbermaw hold so that they could purchase the Furbolg medicine pouch. A level 1 does not have a chance of killing anything in that area so they require a higher level to help them. The going rate for this is similar to dungeon runs however could be made more profitable by taking more than one twink along with you. It is also worth attempting these runs if you need the reputation yourself.

Taxi with your mount

Ever wish you could earn back some of the gold you used to buy those multi-seater mounts of yours? It is possible to charge people who don't own fast mounts a small fare to take them around the place. This option is probably one of the least profitable on this list however might become more viable once Catacylsm comes out and all the new Worgen/Goblin players want lifts around Azeroth on a flying mount that doesn't use the insanely inefficient flight paths of the NPC flightmasters.

Farming

This one counts as a service if you go out to farm premade orders. I used to fish up certain fish for someone else before I decided to get into cooking myself. This was before I really cared much about gold making in WoW and I just fished because I enjoyed it. You should be able to find people to farm for pretty easily by advertising what you're willing to do in trade chat. Just make sure you're being offered a fair price for your products.

Working with your professions

This is probably the one you come across most often ingame. You see people advertising their professions (mostly jewelcrafters) and offering to make things using your materials for 5-20g tip. This method is OK if you're doing it to level up your profession. However don't expect many people to be looking for you to make them anything designed for level 1-79 characters. Even if you are at a full 450 skill level for a profession this method is very inefficient due to how long it takes to do each job. If you include advertising time and travel time you are probably doing 1 job every 5-15 minutes which caps your maximum gold per hour somewhere around the 100g mark on a good day.

Rent a disenchanter

During most dungeon runs you'll pick up several green/blue drops. Some of these are sellable on the auction house for a nice profit. The majority however end up given to the vendor, that is unless you can disenchant them. As of a few patches ago if you have a disenchater in your group all the group members get the option to disenchant when something drops. This is a new theory but I'm sure there are people out there who do solo dungeon runs who are willing to pay 50-100g an hour for an afk enchanter to be in the dungeon with them. The customer gets to earn 2x or 3x as much from their green drops whilst the enchanter gets to make money whilst being afk and doing other work on their PC.

Mage portals

A prime example of being able to make money from other peoples laziness. As a mage its wise to keep an eye out for people in trade chat offering 10-30g for a portal to places such as Dalaran because their hearthstone is on cooldown. If you are feeling generous you can travel with the player and offer them a series of portals for them to quickly complete a quest chain with. However remember to keep an eye on your own travel time and expenses as they seriously hinder your gold per hour.

Casino

This is a bit of a controversial one. I've only ever seen this tried twice so I'm going to assume that is isn't too successful. First time was a character in IF offering a simple dice game, you pay him 100g, do a /roll and if you get over 55 you'd get double your money. The two main reasons I think he failed on this was that first of all people wouldn't trust him to pay them if they won, and secondly it's very easy to see that you have less than a 50% chance of winning.

The second example was a level 1 character selling "red ribboned gift" boxes for 5g advertising that the value of certain goods you could get from it was more than 5g. Almost like a tombola. This one mostly likely failed because its easy to see that it was in the sellers best interests to wrap up lots of low value gifts.

Laser Show

I'll end the list with this funny one. There is one guy who uses multi-accounts to put on laser displays with his mages for tips. If you want to watch him you can see his YouTube video by searching for "wow laser show" on YouTube.

So there you have a list of 10 services your character can offer the other players of Azeroth. They aren't all insanely profitable but we've all got to remember that we're here to have fun as well as get rich. Go give some of these a go and hopefully you'll have a laugh and meet some new and interesting people as well as earning yourself some gold on the side.
