If you have maids in college, don't require them to buy a $500 gown plus make them pay for alterations. Also, keep in mind their skin tone and what color they would look best in.

The best place to start is the Internet of course. Hundreds of sites offer ideas and pictures of bridesmaids gowns and colors. When actually shopping for gowns it's best to take one or two maids with you, then narrow your selection down and get input from the remaining girls.

So what are today's style trends for bridesmaids gowns? Well a-line gowns always look great and look well on all different sizes and shapes. A-line trends right now are to use two-tone, two piece floor length styles. Some other popular styles are off the shoulder, criss crossing straps, and column style dresses.

Today you can find just about every color in the rainbow as a swatch for bridesmaids gowns. Pale colors such as light yellow, sand and taupe are becoming increasingly popular for summer weddings. Likewise burgundy, hunter green and black are beingused for fall and winter weddings. But don't let your colors be determined by the season. If you want to use a dark purple color in June, accent it with a pastel purple and ivory to brighten it up.

Combinations are another huge trend in bridesmaids gowns. Many brides decide to choose a color and then let the maids choose different style gowns that best match their shape and size. You can set ground rules such as: the dress has to be a-line and floor length, leaving your girls a choice of straps, material, and style.
