Bridging The Digital Divide - Mohamed Muhsin

Mohamed Muhsin is a distinguished Sri Lankan who employs his vast knowledge and experience towards developing humans and their quality of life

. He has delivered many keynote addresses on the importance of promoting Information and Communication Technology or ICT in the developing world. Muhsin is a visionary who immediately understood almost a decade ago the important role ICT would play in the lives of the people of the modern world and has dedicated his work towards achieving equality in access to ICT worldwide.

Mohamed Muhsin has often stressed on the importance of ICT in helping the Asian region develop its business platform as it allows for the networking of the economies, so that the region gains maximum global exposure. He has also stressed on the obstacles facilitators have been confronted with in their attempt to introduce this due to the reluctance of governments. Referring to it as the Digital Divide Muhsin has further stated that it adds to the great difference between the affluent and the underprivileged worldwide. Lack of proper knowledge and access in his belief are the main reasons for this unfortunate situation in the world.

For M V Muhsin the only way towards the modern world is through the introduction and promotion of Information Technology beginning from schools. He has stressed the importance of being well connected with the outside world through networking and believes that countries that concentrate on building ICT will find their investments never go to waste. He has cited developing countries such as Sri Lanka and China as prime examples of countries reaping the benefits of ICT.

He spent 17 years at the World Bank as the Vice President and Chief Information Officer and worked tirelessly towards promoting ICT and making World Bank operations global. He knew that it was through global networking that poverty and information deficit could be alleviated and that children receiving a foundation in IT education would grow up to be well rounded IT personnel who could bridge the existing gap.

Mohamed Muhsin is a Strategic Management Consultant and a Chartered Accountant. He has also served as an adviser to the president of Zambia, Dr. Kenneth Kaunda. Irrespective of the position he holds, Muhsin always worked towards trying to educate various government bodies on the importance of ICT as an important means of development. He is still, even after retirement from the World Bank, working at bridging the gap between the haves and the have-nots with regard to access to information technology. Thorough belief in his cause is what constantly drives Mohamed Muhsin to work tirelessly towards promoting ICT in the developing world.
