Brief Introduction to the Grades of Screws

It is obvious that fastener industry has given many benefits to a variety of industrial fields, as well as the daily appliance. Various fasteners are designed and manufactured into secure the connections between two separated parts or some others. Take the screw for example. This fitting has been made with different materials, sizes, shapes and operating methods and so on. Actually, the characteristics of different materials largely determine that of the strength. Generally speaking, such are mainly and reasonably divided into four grades.

The first one is called the standard grade. It refers to screws which are generally produced under the regulations of either the Society of Automotive Engineers or the Industrial Fasteners Institute. Typically, the range for use of hardness and tensile strength are strictly set. All manufacturers are doing their best to meet these regulations. Once these regulations are achieved, the prescribed quality standards would be eventually achieved.

The second grade is called Grade 2. For this grade, the main manufacturing material is the low-carbon quality steel. Therefore, the Grade 2 screws are mainly used for common hardware, including the function to keep basic wood construction together. in words, these screws are not suitable for load-bearing purposes or shear-strength needs.

The third grade is called Grade 5. It means that these screws are manufactured using stronger medium-carbon steel rather than a lesser metal. As a result, these components are truly applicable for the conditions with higher pressure.

And the fourth one is called the Grade 8. Alloy steel is used to manufacture them, which requires medium-carbon steel and some other specific materials. The repeating cooling and heating process for these screws has greatly increased their strength capacity and hardness.

Whatever, these four grades are suitable for the designing and manufacturing of other parts such as bolts. In words, these grades can do great help for us to choose the right screw strength for a job. Otherwise, structural or assembly failure would occur indeed. In order to be distinguished from each other, screws in any grade hold their own specific packing features. Such would do great favors for people to buy and notice.
