Brief Korean Skirmish Reported On By Korean Translation Workers
Last week, South Korean Translation workers in Seoul reported on a brief and bloody skirmish that broke out between North Korean and South Korea
. Apparently, shots broke out near the disputed western sea border and ended abruptly ended in less than five minutes. Each country condemns the other for provoking the fight and North Korea has publicly warned that it would retaliate. The Korean Translation report went on to suggest that the North Korean military paid the highest price. Apparently, the communist countrys ship took nearly 500 rounds of ammunition and had to be towed back to its port.
While North Korea has released a warning message to the South, the importance has been downplayed. Military strategists believe that a planned U.S. visit to the North Korean capital in coming weeks makes it difficult to escalate such matters. The US trip is another effort to persuade the rogue nation to return to nuclear disarmament talks. However, since North Korean has long used nuclear weaponry as bargaining power, it would not be in their best interest to create an environment where this meeting could not take place.
While North Korea accepted an embarrassing defeat in this very short war, the Korean Translation worker indicated that it showed their military weakness. Apparently, the North Korean ship was built by china in the 1960s. Of course, North Korean claimed victory in their major media sources.
