Bring Your Goals To Life!

I am a member of a mastermind group, a professional networking group, which meets each week in my local community. We are each dedicated to help the other members to better themselves. It is interesting that the focus of each meeting has evolved into helping the members accomplish the goals they have set for themselves. Each member of the group is a successful business owner and entrepreneur and you would think we would have so much more we could be focusing on; however, the most important thing we have been able to help each other with is personal accountability. We each act as a third party, holding each other's feet to the self-inflicted fire.

The ability to set and accomplish proper goals is sometimes elusive to the average professional trying to run a small business. It becomes too simple to work in the business rather than on the business. Here are a few simple points I think each of us need to keep in the forefront of our minds in order to accomplish our goals quickly.

Start by writing down a list of wants, then break the list down into priorities a, b, c and so forth. Once you have your list prioritized, create a plan of action. This action plan is no more than a list of steps that will need to be accomplished in order to complete the task list. Take these steps and break them down into long, medium and short-term steps.Let's call these objectives. Each objective is a mini goal.Take the short-term objectives and break them down into tasks or activities that need to be done on a monthly, weekly, daily or even-if possible-an hourly basis. If you follow this plan of action you will be able to turn the list of wants into your own reality.

Two people are in a shooting tournament. The first has the best firing rifle, the best ammunition and the best scope. This individual has been practicing for years and has won many tournaments. The second individual has never shot a gun. I can guarantee you the second person will win if you blind fold the first and turn him around so he can't see his target.There are many people out there today trying to hit a target they can't see. How can you hit a target you can't see or-better yet-does not exist?

There is something about putting your goals down on paper.It's as if they come to life once they are written down. I challenge all of you to stop what you're doing and write out your list of wants. Bring those wants to life!
