Bristol's Horseworld - Caring for Horses since 1952
BRISTOL'S HORSEWORLD CARING FOR HORSES SINCE 1952
HorseWorld is a registered charity situated on the southern outskirts of Bristol in over 180 acres of lush green pastureland. HorseWorld is home to more than 140 horses, ponies and donkeys, there for rehabilitation and care, some saved from the abattoir, some rescued from despicable conditions and others just abandoned. HorseWorld was set up in 1952 by "The Friends of Bristol Horses Society" in order to care for working horses from industry, the railways, armed services and the mines due to be retired or alternatively destroyed.
Now, nearly sixty years on horses thankfully are no longer used in industry but HorseWorld continues to grow with a strong demand for their rescue and rehabilitation expertise. More than one hundred horses and donkeys are dealt with at HorseWorld every year and with an active and successful programme to re-house the animals, over three hundred have found caring and loving homes throughout the South West.
HorseWorld offers a great day out for the whole family, the award winning Visitors Centre where you can have lunch in very pleasant surroundings, browse through the "horsey" gift shop and meet the horses close-up and hear their stories (not from the horse's mouth).
Have all the fun of your own pet- but minus the mess!
Adopt a horse, pony or donkey today and you will help to fund this wonderful establishment, or you could even be a groom for the day!
This exceptional
charity not only rescues and cares for animals but it is also having an impact on the lives of young people, with groups of youth offenders regularly helping out at the charity's equine yard. In addition, an innovative project with the South Bristol CAF team is using a course in equine care to help disadvantaged youngsters and those excluded from school.
Furthermore, since 2002 HorseWorld has worked with the Probation Service to provide hundreds of placements for adults carrying out community service orders. This time spent at HorseWorld has often had a positive effect on individuals resulting in some even signing up as volunteers for this great charity.
To finalise, the positive effect gained through contact with the horses at HorseWorld is recognised by many organizations. These include adults and children with special needs, learning difficulties and mental health problems and although
recognised to be very beneficial sadly the demand outweighs the availability of places.
Visit HorseWorld today with your family and adopt a horse or donkey and help this wonderful charity to continue and expand its good works with animals and humans.
