Bristol nightlife guide

Bristol is the biggest and trendiest city in the South West of England

, with a large nightlife to match. With its fashionable nightclubs and variety of attractions providing as much to do by day as by night, the city is a natural haven for stag and hen weekends, but equally welcoming to revellers and party animals from all walks of life.

A night out in Bristol is about much more than just drinking and dancing, with its scenic waterfront meaning the walk to and from each venue can be an enjoyable experience in itself. You'll receive a warm welcome wherever you wander in Bristol, but if you're keen to head straight into the centre of the action you should take a walk down Whiteladies Road and Park Street, locally known as 'the Strip.' And while it may not be as showy or expensive as its Las Vegas equivalent, you'll find it just as easy to have a good time.

Some of the best known clubs in Bristol include Oceana in the harbourside area, which contains five bars and two nightclubs, while The Living Room is a top choice for those looking for somewhere stylish to sample colourful cocktails. You'll find many great places if your tastes are more down-to-earth too, including hugely enjoyable nights out at Karaoke-Me! In the Old City quarter, a venue dedicated to amateur gusto.

Don't just settle for strained renditions of Cher and Beatles classics though, when you could see some of the world's biggest bands in the flesh at Bristol's biggest concert venues, such as Colston Hall and St George's. The Bristol Hippodrome is also famed across the country for being a great place to catch big musicals and stage shows on a cultural night out in the city, though those with more classical tastes tend to flock to the Old Vic, the oldest working theatre in Britain that still operates a diverse schedule throughout the year.

Bristol's large student population means there's plenty for young people to do on nights out in the city too, and if you're staying at a Bristol hotel in the city centre you'll be within easy reach of many student-friendly hang-outs, so you won't have to worry about getting back to your room safely.

You should also be sure to track down some of the city's mouth-watering restaurants during your time in Bristol, including venues like the Highbury Vaults and the chance to mix great food with great music at Mr Wolf's Noodle Bar. Bristol is truly a city that has something for everyone.
