Britain Tips the Scale when it comes to obesity

Britain Tips the Scale when it comes to obesity

Statistics have revealed that one quarter of people in the United Kingdom now fall into the category of being obese. In fact, the United Kingdom is now the fattest nation in the European Union just in front of Ireland, Malta, Iceland and Luxembourg.

The study also indicates that although the average life expectancy in the United Kingdom is higher than some of our European counterparts, the United Kingdom has fallen behind the European Crowd when it comes to the number of years which the average person spends in good health

Although this study is unlikely to come as a surprise to Government officials and health experts in the United Kingdom, it is likely to ignite yet another debate as to how this growing health crisis should be dealt with.

In recent years the Government have pledged a significant amount of money to try and tackle the issue of obesity, particularly when it comes to childhood obesity.

Schemes to educate both adults on children about nutrition, free gym memberships and free fitness equipment have all been offered throughout the United Kingdom in an effort to put a halt to the problem once and for all. The media have also played a huge role in highlighting this deadly issue with shocking documentaries, news reports and reality shows. Unfortunately, despite all of these combined efforts little progress seems to have been made when it comes to resolving the problem. In fact, it is estimated that obesity now costs 3.4bn a year. Sadly, this figure is expected to rise even further as the problem continues to get worse

It would seem that Britain is set to tip the European obesity scales for some time to come and it cannot be denied that however we as a nation choose to tackle this issue, it will require a change a huge shift in the way in which we live today
