Broadband Satellite Service Brings the World to the Outback by:Michiel Van Kets
The vast and beautiful expanses of Australia are some of the least densely populated areas on the planet
. As a consequence public services other countries and regions take for granted are slow to expand throughout this otherwise modern and cosmopolitan society. Internet especially has been delayed in reaching all corners of the Australian frontier, and when it does stretch to remote locations - even though they may be otherwise bustling modern cities - the dial-up internet service offered can be frustratingly slow. Now, with the help of satellite technology Australians homes and businesses across the nation can into the 21st century. And best of all, satellite broadband internet is now available throughout most of Australia.
Satellite internet does not rely on telephone lines and local internet service providers to get customers online. With only a small satellite dish (the size of a large pizza) and an accompanying modem you can get your computer online from almost any location within Australia. This opens up a whole new world of entertainment and educational options for people who live in areas too remote to get attached to a traditional wired telephone network. This is true for many locations in the Australian outback, where workers and homeowners have sat patiently waiting as the wonders of the internet slowly advance without them.
This is no longer the case, however as broadband satellite internet providers have expanded throughout the country.
The broadband internet satellite dish can both send and receive data to geo-synchronous satellites from a wide area of reception. The ability to send information is especially important in the most remote locations where as previous satellite internet services were constrained by the need to send information (even requests for files) over a landline to a satellite control station somewhere on the ground. Though this allowed many users to access the high-speed data delivery capabilities of the satellites it was still prone to the many disadvantages of relying on land-based telephony services. Chances are if you've selected broadband satellite internet as an alternative to dial-up service your local phone system is lacking in quality or reliability or both. Therefore, should you lose you landline 'upstream' your one-way satellite connection is useless.
It is sometimes hard to believe when one looks at the amazing changes in the structure and content of the internet itself that many people in far parts of the globe still cannot get reliable internet access. With so much of the world's economy dependent on internet communications to make deals, organize plans and synchronize schedules business without internet service can find themselves becoming rapidly obsolete and less profitable. With the latest satellite broadband service available almost anywhere and at increasingly affordable prices this is no longer a problem.
Even in areas with long-established telephone services broadband satellite internet services may still be the preferred method of internet access. Telephone based internet services are prone to overuse and limited by the distance from the nearest distribution node. In other words, even though you may have access to dial-up internet access in your community or neighborhood, depending on the quality and location of your telephone company's technology and equipment you may still experience frustrating lags and disruptions of service as you share your access to antiquated equipment with hundreds if not thousands of your neighbors.
