What is the History of Brownies?
According to some sources the invention of brownies started in Chicago after a lady attending a fair requested a desert, that should have the rich texture of a chocolate cake, but should be made available in small bitesize pieces which could easily be placed into a boxed lunch. The early brownies were quite different from the chocolate treat we see today as they featured an apricot glaze and had pieces of walnut in them. To this day the brownies are still being made in the hotel, according to the original recipe. The earliest brownie recipe was first placed in a book called Home cookery in 1904.
