Bruno Greco Develops A Style Of Kaleidoscoping Abstraction In The Odyssey Within At Agora Gallery

Chelseas Agora Gallery announced its annual exhibition of fine art by Greek and Italian

artists is scheduled to run from December 15, 2009 through January 5, 2010, featuring work from Bruno Greco.

After years of figurative, magical, realist oil paintings, northern Italian artist Bruno Greco has devoted his recent work to developing a dazzling style of kaleidoscoping acrylic abstraction. From sunset yellows and oranges, deep ocean blues and verdant greens to searing reds and oranges and unreal purples, this new vocabulary booms with mythic dramas, epic tensions and spectacularly dynamic compositions. A fundamental duality structures each canvas, but Greco is careful never to be too explicit. Pieces are alternately divided between warm and cool hues, brash and static brushstrokes, depth and flatness, geometric forms and swirling masses.

In places these grand oppositions evoke struggles between reason and the irrational, the heavenly and base, order and chaos; elsewhere Grecos spinning forms evoke torrential rains, exploding fireworks and glowing galaxies. His work rarely sides with any specific readingsave the occasional landscapepreferring to elicit meaning from viewers observations. Packing his canvases with raw energy and frenzied movements, Greco stages elemental confrontations and lets us choose our winners. Signing his paintings with the pseudonym brown777 B.G., Bruno Greco has exhibited his work in Paris, London and throughout Italy.

The Odyssey Within is a captivating survey of modern-day artists from Greece and Italy. The artistic conceptions vary dramatically while retaining a distinctive European character attentive to the human condition. Works of both quiet introspection and visual bravado are included, offering a unique look into the contemporary art coming from these two prominent Mediterranean locales.
