Bryce Dallas Howard Signs To Help Emma Stone

With the release of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse

, scheduled for this year, Bryce Dallas Howard will be seen essaying negative roles for the first time. Dallas, who has earlier portrayed only good-natured, demure characters, replaces Rachelle Lefevre as Victoria for the third film of the Twilight franchise, in which the vindictive vampire sets out to kill protagonist Bella Swan.

Meanwhile, Howard is looking forward to committing more sin- on screen, of course. She has joined the cast of the upcoming movie The Help as Hilly Holbrook, a white woman known for her cruel treatment of her black servants in a story set in Jackson, Mississippi in the year 1962.

The Help is based on a novel by Kathryn Stockett, and tells the story of three women against a backdrop where an African-American maid (the "help") has to raise her white employer's child in the absence of the biological mother. Skeeter, a young college graduate returns home after completing her education to find that Constantine, the maid who raised her, has disappeared without a trace. Skeeter is determined to find the woman who is so dear to her, and in the process, finds out things about the lives of African-American maids in the years before the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The other two women are the black maids Aibileen and Minny. Aibileen, played by Viola Davis, is shown as bearing the responsibility of bringing up a white girl, the seventeenth such child she has raised. The recent demise of her own son and the grief results in a kind of fierce love for the little girl in her charge. Minny is Aibileen's close friend, and while she is a very capable maid, she has a sharp tongue which she cannot control, and this contributes to the frequency with which she is dismissed by her employers. Viola Davis plays Aibileen while Emma Stone has been cast in the lead role of Skeeter.

Howards character Hilly Holbrook is an antagonist and is one of Skeeters opponents as Skeeter attempts to talk to the maids and find out more about Constantine.

The film is being directed by Tate Taylor, a childhood friend of Kathryn Stockett. Taylor is also the one who adapted the novel into a screenplay. 1492 Productions (Chris Columbus, Michael Barnathan, and Mark Radcliffe) in association with DreamWorks Studios, is producing the film.
