Lumbini is the most prominent Buddhist destination in India surrounded by the Nepal- India border. Being a birth place for prince Sidhartha, the former name of Gautam Buddha it possesses many auspicious signs accompanied by the birth of Gautam Buddha. The Bodhi tree and the Buddha stupa are the two major attractions of this place.

Bodhgaya

Bodhgaya, the next Buddhist destination in India is a place where Gautam Buddha attained enlightenment. The Mahabodhi tree is the most prominent attraction of this place. The Mahabodhi Temple is another important landmark which was built by Emperor Ashoka.

Sarnath

Sarnath, the blissful city is placed at a minute distance of around 10 km from Varanasi. The major attractions covered by this Buddhist destination in India include Dhemak Stupa, the Chaukhandi Stupa and the Dharmarajika stupa

Shravasti

Shravasti is the other beautiful Buddhist destination in India. There are many stories revolving around this place like how Buddha stood in the air, his lower part of the body engulfed in flames that too with five hundred jets of water streaming from top of his body. Jetavana Vihara, Monasteries and Mahet are the prime attractions of this Buddhist destination in India.

Sankasya

Sankashaya, this Buddhist destination in India is located in Uttar Pradesh. Though the city is small but is of its own relevance importance. The key attractions of this Sankasya are statue of Buddha, Bisari Devi Temple and famous Ashokan Elephant Pillar. This is the only important place of Buddhist pilgrimage where no temples or monasteries are available.

Rajgir

Rajgir is among the other prominent Buddhist destinations in India where Gautam Buddha walked and preached. The place is known for its important event which was the conversion of two future disciples namely, Sariputra and Maudgalyayana. The primary attractions of this place include Venture's Peak, Venuvana, Sattapani Caves and Jivika Mango Garden.
