First you need to start looking for the perfect place to build your braai. You need to choose an area of your property which is close enough to the kitchen, with ample space around it. There should be enough ventilation to let the smoke escape.

Building a braai is an easy job and there are many DIY specifications online. If you are not the DIY type of person then you should get a builder to build your braai for you.

When the braai structure is built, the fun truly begins. The basic requirements for building a braai are: Wood, fire lighter's, and matches. Make sure that the wood has been chopped to the correct size.

Start by placing your fire lighter's in the centre of the cement table. Then place to pieces of wood parallel to each other, on either side of the fire lighter's. Once this is done, stack another two pieces of wood parallel to each other at right angles to the initial two pieces. Once a tower of wood is made, three levels high you can light your fire lighter's. Use small twigs and branches to place over the fire lighter's once these start to burn, your wooden tower should start burning from the inside.

When all the wood has burnt down to hot coals, it is time to place your grill above stacked bricks. Now wait for the coals to cool down and place your meat on the grill. Cook steak to perfection by allowing to cook on either side for two minutes a side and enjoy!
