Build A Putting Green - Play Golf At Home

A putting green is a valuable thing to someone who likes to play golf

. It is an area of green turf with a hole indicated by a flag and is found on a golf course. The golfer uses a golf club (putter) and tries to get the ball into the hole. It looks very easy as the ball is very close to the hole but the shots are frequently difficult. Putting greens are used by golfers to prepare at home or even at wok by using a portable version. In fact, kits are being sold nowadays that you can purchase and assemble by on your own. If you cant get enough of the game and want to take it in your backyard, here are the directions to do so.

Materials Necessary:

Grass Seed

Irrigation tubing

Sand

Soil (new and clean)

PVC pipes with holes pre-drilled

Crushed stone

Metal cups

Tools Necessary:

Shovel

Wheelbarrow

Tape measure

Metal rake

Instructions:

1.Decide where you want to install your putting green and measure out the area with a tape measure to make sure you have enough resources for the size you prefer. Select the area that is highest elevated in your backyard or anywhere you are going to make the putting green.

2.Use shovel to dig away all poor soil and eliminate lumps and rocks. Use the metal rake to rake the area to completely remove of rocks, lumps and other unwanted items. Use the wheelbarrow to transport the unnecessary items you took out.

3.Dig out the spot with your shovel to approximately 10 inches. Lay a base layer of crushed stone and put in the PVC pipes to ensure superior drainage.

4.Lay out a bed of sand ensuring that you fill any holes in the crushed stones. This too will help with suitable drainage. Fill with the sand leaving about an inch for the top soil.

5.Lay out the new, clean top soil and be cautios not to leave any lumps at this stage. A putting green should be smooth and free of lumps. You may add any contour and slope to fit your preferences.

6.Plant grass seeds. Use the best grass on your putting green. For hot weather conditions use Bermuda grass while for colder regions use Bent grass.

7.Run irrigation tubings across the area. This step can be very complicated therefore if you do not know how to fit it correctly, it is best to employ a professional.

8.Set up metal cups for holes.

Tips and Warnings:

The area where you intend to set up a putting green must have correct drainage. Otherwise, puddles will form and the grass will become useless. Laying the green slightly above the area can help with drainage.

When choosing the spot for your putting green, consider that traffic areas are unsuitable.

Grass rows well with regularity particularly putting green grass thus, it is best to irrigate at the same time everyday.

You need a high quality mower later on to gain the evenness and quality of cut.

A putting green takes a lot of time and attention to be suitably preserved. To be precisely, it requires mowing every three days, that is, cutting the grass to 3/16 of an inch.

The stability of the grass relies on factors such as the terrain, the climate, irrigation and the type of grass planted.

Real putting grass takes time to maintain thus if you do not have the time to maintain a real putting green your other option is to buy a faux one and have it assembled by professionals.
