However, even with these rules and regulations in place there are still inevitably going to be certain risks associated with this type of work, and it is the responsibility and legal obligation of the employers to ensure the safety of their employees.

This type of situation has a number of implications associated with it, aside from the obvious trials and tribulations associated with sustaining an injury, there are also certain financial implications.

Extended periods of time off work can have detrimental effects on a persons potential earnings, which, in these times of economic recession, count for a lot. Furthermore, there is always the potential that someone might be incapacitated and therefore unable to work following an injury.

With such great potential for hazards involved with construction work, and serious implications associated with the consequences of an injury, it is of great importance that employees do their bit to abide by the health and safety regulations too. A good starting point is to ensure you wear the correct gear when working on a building site, safety measures such as hard hats can lessen any potential blow from a falling object. High visibility jackets are also useful when working in the evening.

Similarly, training can make quite a big difference. Any new recruits should be made well aware of workplace safety; drilling these regulations into them early on will ensure that they dont develop any bad habits. Employees that have been in the same job for a while are also likely to become complacent, so good supervision is essential in maintaining a safe work environment. Remember, it only takes one person to make a mistake, and the implications can be very severe, prevention is always preferred over cure.
