Bulgaria Launches Tourism Promotion in TV Blitz
Bulgaria is about to launch a large scale tourism promotion which will be beamed
into millions of houses all over Europe in a bid to boost the country's tourist figures. The television advertising campaign will run on four international channels and will promote Bulgaria as a year-round holiday destination of choice, reports property portal House Sales Bulgaria (
http://www.housesalesbulgaria.com/). As Bulgaria's leading newspaper Sofia Echo states, "Bulgaria's property boom was always intrinsically linked to tourism" so it is hoped that this tourism push will ultimately help to bolster real estate in Bulgaria.
The TV tourism blitz will reach around 608 million European households through Euronews, National Geographic Channel, Discovery Channel and Eurosport and will cost 7.5 million leva (around 3.8 million euros) which is being financed by the European Union's Regional Development' initiative. The campaign will be broadcast during prime time slots in two phases, the first from September to December this year and the second from January to March 2011, in five languages (Bulgarian, English, German, Russian and French). The point of this media saturation is to highlight the beauty and wide-ranging appeal of Bulgaria as a tourist destination - from its summer beach resorts to its winter ski resorts, also featuring the rural tourism and cultural historic heritage that is less well known - with the ultimate aim of increasing tourism figures in 2011 and beyond.
If, as the Sofia Echo points out, property and tourism are always linked in Bulgaria then any boost to tourism that this advertising campaign creates should be good news for Bulgarian property. The country's real estate market has always been propped up by international investors looking for apartments or villas in Bulgaria which will give them a slice of the Bulgarian life that they have come to love having holidayed in the country.
The recent global economic downturn has seen many people forego overseas holidays in the last couple of years. If there really are tentative green shoots of recovery and people are considering travelling abroad again, then a TV advertising campaign on this scale could help Bulgaria's chances of attracting those holiday-makers. And perhaps these holiday-makers will repeat the property pattern of the past and, having fallen in love with the place, look for property for sale in Bulgaria for use as a holiday home.
