Bulls Eye Club

Today is August 21st, 2010 and our church hosted a special event. John is an expert archer from our church and he taught us about archery.

When it was my turn to shoot the crossbow, I asked John what to do. He said look into the scope and line your target up with the cross. So I lined up my target with the cross and as soon as I had it centered, I pressed the trigger. I didn't see what happened so I asked the people where my arrow went and they said my arrow went right through the bull's-eye.

Then the thought flashed in my mind that Jesus died on the cross to save us from our sins and when I line my life up with the cross or the will of Jesus, I am on target. And I will hit the bull's-eye every time. If I take my eye off the cross and Jesus is not the center of my life, I will certainly be off target.

Just like I could not see where my arrow went, we can't always see where God is leading us. All we need to do is follow Jesus and have faith and trust in Him. He will always lead us to our target. In Matthew 16:24 Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me."

A scope is an instrument used for seeing and observing. God gave us eyes and a mind which are used for seeing and observing. The word scope can also be defined as opportunity for freedom of thoughts or actions. God gave us free will to choose our thoughts or actions.

What are you seeing and observing through your scope? Whatever it is, will be determined by your thoughts and actions. Is your scope set on the cross with Jesus as the center of your life or is your scope set on the world? If you're not on target and can admit it that is good because pride has not got in your way and now you can take action to get on target. How do you get on target? First you need to truly ask Jesus to forgive you of your sins and then you must submit your life to Jesus. After this, the best way to keep your scope set on Jesus is to read the Bible and let the Holy Spirit guide you.

I challenge you to keep your scope set on Jesus and join me in the bull's-eye club!

God Bless You,
