It is Sebastian who is the key character at many points of the story in helping out the human and Mermaid/Merman characters to win and defeat the evil sea witch Ursula, at the very end helping Ariel and Prince Eric defeat her in the final battle. There have been modern interpretations of Sebastian as being a racist character due to his Jamaican accent and song about not working and just playing music, which some find racially insensitive to African Americans. Whatever you thoughts on it, Sebastian is a great character that kids and adults love, some saying that he really makes the film The Little Mermaid as successful as it is.
