Business Plan Road Blocks

Everyone knows you have to have the perfect business plan to succeed in your physical therapy practice, right? You couldn't possibly hope to succeed unless you have a 27 page document with 15 pages of financials, that gives all of the details of your business that you have just vaguely defined yourself. Right? Is this what you believe?

I won't say that not having a business plan is necessarily a good thing. On the contrary, I truly believe in the power of having a plan to build a successful business.

But the thought of putting together a plan like I described above has surely got to be a problem for most of you, as it is for me. It sounds like an excruciating exercise to me. And it blocks many potentially successful and successful practice owners before they even begin.

Frankly, the whole business plan dilemma is a problem for many physical therapy practice owners, something I just recognized a few years ago. I had grappled with this for some time, wondering how I could make it a different experience for you, while at the same time make sure you have a solid plan to guide you every day of the year toward your goals.

In my work with clinic owners, I have learned that we can get stuck because when we find something hard to do the way we're told it has to be done, we don't do anything. Well hang onto your seats, I'm here to tell you that it doesn't have to be done the way you've been told. These rules can be broken, and in fact, there is a better way. It is also an easier way.

Let's simply get you started today on this preferred road.

Get started...

Start with a single blank sheet of paper and ask yourself:

What do I want to accomplish in my business?

What is my overall goal, the outcome, I want to accomplish in my business?

Stick with this question until you have answered it. If it helps, doodle in the corners of your page while you're thinking and dreaming about your future and that of your business.

Next...

Answer this question:

How will I do this?

Knowing why you do what you do helps you stay on course when the going gets tough, and prevents you from getting so emotionally involved in the day-to-day details that you lose sight of the big picture.
