In many cases, it is better to go for computer rentals than purchase the equipment outright. There are some things to consider before you choose any of the two options.

Renting allows you to retain a large chunk of your working capital that can be directed towards other business expenses. But if the usage extends to many years, then you are better off buying the equipment.

If the nature of your work dictates you to constantly upgrade technology, then renting is a much better option. Computer rentals allow you to access the latest technology that will help you stay on top of your business. Buying equipment and re-investing in constantly updating them is an extremely expensive proposition.

Rental companies offer businesses need-based rental plans. For instance, you can go for short-term rentals for day-long or week-long marketing events, trade shows and conferences. If you need the systems for in-house training extending to two or three months, you can choose a suitable rental plan. You can choose the plan that best suits your requirements.

Most rental companies also give you the freedom to make changes to your existing rental agreement. For instance, you can cut-short the rental term or extend it when your business needs change or there is a project cut-back. When you buy multiple computers for a project, which is suddenly taken back by the client, then your ROI suffers and you are left with excess unused computers. Purchasing computers makes more sense when there is a permanent requirement for them.

Maintenance, storage and disposal

When you own the computers, you have to take care of maintenance and repair work. You have to set aside funds for yearly repair/maintenance work. When you rent the systems, the rental company takes care of repair and maintenance, the costs of which are included in the overall rental rate. Computer rentals also save you the trouble and expense associated with equipment storage and disposal.
