Buying A Used Car-an Exclusive Interview With Top Car Salesman (part 1)
So I cornered one of the countries top car salesman and asked him for a short interview and here's how it went.
Elaine- How long have you been selling cars?
R.J.-Well I have been selling used cars for over 7 years now have sold close to 1000 cars. So I know exactly how a car purchase should go. It should be a smooth process, however for most people it is not because of all the games most car dealerships play with people. Most people get taken advantage of at a dealership and pay way too much for a vehicle.
Elaine-Why do you think most people hate car shopping?
R.J.-Well there are several reason why most people just can stand going to buy a car. Unfortunately we all have to do it at some point in our lives and most likely several times in a lifetime.
1). It can be very time consuming, you have to go from dealership to dealership on your time off. Most of the time it is your day off and sometimes it takes days or even weeks to find the right vehicle. Most people just want to get it over with.
2). Another reason is that can a very stressful experience. Sitting there in some car dealership for hours going back and forth with the salespeople trying to make sure you don't get ripped off. Fighting and arguing over the price of the car for hours or even days people just hate that. It can be very stressful and aggravating which is why people just don't want to have to deal with it.
3). One more reason is that most of us don't like dealing with salespeople. I am a salesperson and I don't even like dealing with salespeople following me around while I shop. Most people think of car sales people as thieves and liars and they are right to an extent. However some are just good hard working honest people. Which is why you need to have the right information in case you get a dishonest salesperson.
Elaine-Why have you come out to expose and reveal the real truth about the used car buying process? won't it hurt used car sales?
R.J.-People are always going to be buying used cars so this information won't hurt the industry at all. This information is not meant to stop people from buying used cars but to educate them so they can get a fair price. I still sell used cars so I don't see a problem there. But what I do see is people being ripped off all the time by other car dealerships.
I have come to the conclusion that I feel obligated to do something about it because I constantly see good hard working people being taken advantage of all the time. I just feel compelled to help anyway I can which is why I have put a used car buying course together to help educate people so they have to right information before they even go to a dealership.
Elaine-So you say people get ripped off all the time how is that?
R.J.-Well of course the dealership gets the car at a wholesale price and then sells it at retail which is ok just like any other business, that is just how business is done. With clothing, food, electronics, furniture etc, the wholesale retail markup is not that that much to where you worry about it. However with a any kind of vehicle the markup is $1,000's of dollars, a huge difference.
Not only that but you will be in debt paying on a loan for years. So if you pay too much your loan is a higher amount and you pay interest on a higher amount which means your more in debt than you should be.
Now it is the used car dealerships job to make as much commission as they possibly can off your sale. They really don't care how much debt they put you in they just want to make the biggest commission possible. They do that buy playing games, lying and taking advantage of people who do not know about the car buying process.
So if you walk into a car dealership and you do not know what you are doing the salesperson can tell right away and at that point they have you right where they want you. At that point it is over you will be taken advantage of and pay too much.
Elaine-What would say is the most important thing about going out and buying a used car?
R.J.-Research, research and more research. It's really that simple. Just like you would compare pricing to get the best price for a computer, tech device, cell phone or any other kind of electronic device the same thing applies to car shopping.
Shop around I have seen people fly to a different states to save $1,000's of dollars on a vehicle and drive the car back. If you could save $5,000 dollars would that be worth a plane ticket? Probably. I have seen people travel to save up to $10,000 dollars. So do your research it can make a huge difference.
