Buying The Right Exercise Bike

You are probably reading this article because you love biking

. You love it because of the exciting burn you feel in your muscles as you are pedaling.

You love it because of the adrenaline rush you get when you are speeding down a hill at 30 miles an hour or more. You also think it's great because it can be a good exercise that can provide you with fresh air from the outdoors while enjoying some amazing landscapes.

But, alas, there may be some things out there that can hinder you from that exhilarating feeling. After all, that exciting feeling may quickly leave once winter comes around and your hands freeze shut as they grip your handlebars.

Or it will hit the road if you are an urban biker and you have to fight your way through dangerous bumper to bumper traffic as if you were in your car again. There are many scenarios in which outdoor biking might not be the best idea.

For those who have these problems but still want to feel the buzz of pedaling, exercise bikes can be a great alternative. They are found in virtually every fitness center or gym across the world.

But, if going to the gym just isn't your cup of tea, a home exercise bike could be another promising path. There are many great machines out there that are up for sale and would make a great addition to your home.

Buying a proper exercise bike isn't a walk in the park, though. There are certain things that you need to be aware of before making a purchase decision.

The first thing that you need to know is that purchasing a cycling machine is a serious investment. It is only for those who will use it frequently, because you won't find a $20 machine at your local Salvation Army anytime soon.

Don't expect to pay less than $200 for any kind of cycling machine. A machine that would cost $200-300 would get you a basic, low quality cycling clunker that will get the job done, but won't do anything else.

$300 to $600 dollars will get you an average machine, while paying more than $600 will get you a state-of-the-art bike that will do about anything you want it to.

The next important thing to think about is how comfortable the bike is. Don't just buy a machine without first sitting on it, trying it out, and seeing if it feels right to you.

Those who don't do this will be stuck with an expensive hunk of junk that feels worse than a rock hard mattress when they use it. Make sure that the product you buy has adjustable seats, handlebars, and just about anything else that can be fitted to your liking.

When you go to a fitness store to buy, there will be two types of bikes that the salesman might show you. Here is a brief description of each of them:

Upright: This is the traditional type of machine. You would sit on it similarly to how you would sit on a mountain or road bicycle.

Recumbent: These are for those who might not be into more intense workouts. They let you sit back with the pedals in front of you instead of below you.

If you buy a more up-scale model, it will usually come with features such as resistance and heart rate monitors. Most modern machines use magnetic resistance to make it easier or harder to pedal, mimicking the changing of gears on a traditional bicycle.

Heart rate monitors can be built in for those who want the most out of their workout. Many times the bikes will have pulse checkers on the handlebars so that you know if you need to slow or up the intensity of your exercise routine.

These are basic tips that can help you in your quest for the perfect one, but make sure to ask questions to the store salesman or the person selling it so you don't get ripped off. Make sure you are getting a quality spinner that is worth what you paid for it!

After you buy one, find a good spot in your living space and get to work! It won't replace outdoor biking, but it can definitely be a great addition to your active lifestyle.
