CCTV security cameras in Teesside help track down suspects

Photo stills taken from Teesside CCTV security cameras have been printed in a local paper as part of a major Crimestoppers appeal from police.

The eighteen pictures taken from Teesside CCTV system cameras have been printed in the local paper, The Gazette and so far the appeal has been hailed a success by police.

Officers from the Cleveland Police force area have already received seventeen calls from members of the public regarding the identities of some of those featured.

This information will now be passed onto the investigating officers and could be used to help catch wanted suspects. They could even be found guilty and sentenced to a custodial sentence.

The pictures are part of the first series of a new joint initiative by Crimestoppers and Cleveland Police which will now feature in the paper every month in an attempt to appeal to the wider public for more information.

Members of the public can contact police or Crimestoppers anonymously if they do recognise any of the wanted suspects or if they have any information that could lead to their arrests. When contacting the organisation, they do not need to give their own name or any other personal details. Some callers could even qualify for a cash reward if a suspect is brought to justice.

Speaking to The Gazette, regional manager for Crimestoppers, Dave Hunter was very happy with the results so far.

He said: " To put it in perspective, we usually get 160 calls for Teesside in the whole month and we have achieve 25% of that in just one day.

The paper will now feature new pictures of those suspects police are keen to track down, every month. The pictures will be released when police have been unable to identify particular individuals or have been unable track them down in the local area.
