CPR Training Manikins
CPR or cardio pulmonary resuscitation is the procedure attempted in an effort to save the life of the person suffering from cardiac arrest or suffering from breathing problem. CPR can be given both in and outside the hospital. The person providing CPR should be certified in CPR training. During training, CPR manikins are used for performing CPR. These manikins are the dummies, or dolls for practicing CPR before actually trying it on any person.
The CPR technique can help to keep the victim alive until the medical help arrives. CPR can restore the normal functioning of heart and lungs by chest compressions at higher rate. It helps to manually pump the blood into the heart of the victim to delay the tissue death and avoid the victim from dying.
CPR technique involves chest compressions and artificial respiration methods. The chest compressions need to be provided at the high-speed normally around 100 compressions per minute. Artificial breathing can be provided by mouth-to-mouth respiration by breathing into the mouth of the victim. Defibrillator can also be used to restore the activity of heart by giving electric shock.
CPR may be required in cases of electric shock, drowning, poisoning, smoke inhalation, accidents, suffocation, electrocution and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).
CPR Training Manikins:
Manikin or mannequin is an articulated doll used by the CPR trainers for performing CPR. The doll has the simulated airways and it is used for teaching first aid techniques, CPR techniques and advanced airway management skills.
The CPR manikins are specially designed for CPR and AED trainings with anatomical features. CPR manikins showcase the built-in features involving the realistic head tilt, visible chest rise and perceptible chest compression clicks. These features help the trained rescuers to perform the CPR correctly.
Some of the manikins also include the anatomical landmarks allowing proper hand positioning and pulse checking to help the instructors to provide precise training on AED.
Need of CPR Manikins:
The person providing CPR should be certified and trained. The CPR offered to infants is different from that provided to adults. Special care must be taken while providing CPR to infants and children.
It is also important for the CPR infant rescuer to practice infant CPR techniques on the manikins to ensure proper method of CPR.
How to Provide CPR Training on Manikins:
Clean and sterilize the manikin with soap and water or anti-bacterial scrub.
Insert the lung bag in the manikin by removing the chest piece. Insert the nozzle into the spout near the neck of manikin.
Close the chest covering and make sure that it fits properly before starting CPR.
Roll the manikin and pull the jaw to open its mouth.
Seal your mouth over the manikin's mouth to create the airtight seal.
Blow two breaths into the mouth of manikin and look for the chest rise when the lung bags are full with air. Do not breathe forcefully or the lung bags may burst.
Repeat the process for 30 chest compressions and breaths.
Disassemble the CPR manikin after use.
Today manikins are commonly used by all trainers for teaching CPR techniques. CPR manikins are used in CPR trainings to demonstrate the CPR. The prospective rescuer is allowed to practice CPR techniques on the manikins. If the method applied by the rescuer is correct then he is certified as a CPR rescuer.
