CTFxC introduces Minus the Bear

Charles Trippy and Alli Speed from their Youtube channel, Internet Killed Television, did a vlog on May 12,2010(day 377)that documented their daily highlights before, prior, and during their trip to Tampa to see Minus the Bear. Once again through the power of Youtube something great was introduced from obscurity for most people and was found to be completely awesome. Since that day, I've seen countless postings from people that were introduced to this band by their Youtube channel.

Ever since I was young, I have been on a constant quest to findan awesome band that hasn't been exploited by mainstream media and it definitely seems like Minus the Bear fits the bill. The Seattle based band was formed in 2001 and has continued to make albums while staying true to their sound. It is apparent they have evolved as a band afterpicking up a new producer,Joe Chiccarelli (My Morning Jacket, The White Stripes, The Shins), for the recording of their last album released this year. The focus has seemly shifted to developing each members contributions, but they have given birth to something that is even more interesting and alluring. If you listen to the band's album, Planet of Ice, and then listen to their newly released album, Omni, you can hear the independent focusbut distinctly hear even more interesting progressive rock coming through the ensemble in the comparison.

After hearing their name and hearing their music, I resorted to labeling bothas captivating and was eager to learn more about them. I was humored to find their name was derived from the 70's television show, B.J. and the Bear. It was reported a friend of the band had gone on a date and one of the band members asked how the date went. He replied,"...you know that TV show from the 70's, B.J. and the Bear? It was like that minus the bear...."

Some of my favorite tracks are Knights, Pachuca Sunrise, Throwin' Shapes, Drilling(remix), and Into the Mirror. One listen to this band and I think most will be hooked. Its definitely not mainstream, but could be like by all.
