A public university that is one of the constituent colleges of City University of New York or CUNY, Hunter College is widely known as CUNY Hunter College. Located in the upper east side of Manhattan, it is one of the coeducational liberal arts colleges of United States.
Brief Background
Founded in 1870, CUNI Hunter College descended from Female Normal and High School that was later named as the Normal College of City of New York. Its founder was Thomas Hunter, the school's president during its first 37 years of existence. By 1887, it was the only approved institution for teachers in New York City. It was also one of the first educational institutions in United States taking secular mode. From 1887 through the 1970s it was a story of regular expansion of the campus of the College.
Campus Features
CUNI Hunter College comprises of three towers interconnected through skywalks. Main campus of the college is located near the Central Park. Many prestigious cultural institutions of the city are located nearby like the Asia Society Museum, Frick Collection, and Metropolitan Museum of Arts. Main campus contains Schools of Arts and Science, education, and doctoral studies.
Most notable features of the campus are Assembly Hall with a capacity of over 2,000;Sylvia and Danny Kaye Playhouse is 675 seated proscenium theater;K. Lang Recital Hall with space for 148;Frederic Loewe Theater; andBertha and Karl Leubsdorf Art Gallery.
Programs Offered
Since its establishment in 1870 the number of programs offered by Hunter College is always on the rise so that it offers educational degrees in over 100 divergent streams of education. Some of the most popular programs offered by the College are Leadership training for women in Bella Abzug Leadership Institute;Psychology and biology.PhD in education.Master's program in mathematics.PhD program in biology and chemistry.Master's program in economics.

CUNY Hunter College has six schools under it-Arts and Science School;School of Education;Roosevelt Public Policy Institute;School of Nursing;School of Social Works; andSchool of Health Sciences.
Teaching and Research Institute
Presently the College is one of the most comprehensive teachings and research institute with over 20,000 students enrolled of whom 5,000 are studying in graduate streams. Maintaining its concerns for education of woman, the college has three women students out of every four.
