You can also help yourself fight off slippery floors by choosing a certain type of tiles which won't get slippery when wet (polish tiles, for example). If you have gas appliances, then you should check them on a regular basis to ensure that no gas leaks are occurring. If, once again, you have gas appliances and happen to own a gas hob, then you should definitely refrain from placing it next to sources of draft, meaning doors or windows (they will cause the gas to be blown out and wasted). Like any sensible person, you should always have taken the necessary precautions when it comes to dealing with fiery situations (have a smoke alarm installed and a small fire extinguisher ready just in case the firemen don't always come on time); you should also make use of non-flammable materials in the kitchen. One of the best sources of safety for many people is light, and the ability to see what's coming; a poorly lit kitchen is sure to cause an accident at one point or another.
