Cain and Abel: Two Sons and Rage

Cain and Abel were the sons of Adam and Eve, the first children born of woman in the Bible. The Garden of Eden is where it all begun, when Adam and Eve lived as the first couple on the earth. God blessed them with these two children, that they may reproduce and fill the earth with their offspring. The boys grew up well with Abel taking the role of a shepherd for the flock and Cain taking over the cultivation of the land. When the time came, Cain presented part of his harvest as an offering to God and, similarly Abel slaughtered part of his flock as an offering.

God gave much favor to Abel for his offering but did not show similar favor for the offering that Cain had given to him. The reaction regard to the lack of favor from God was to anger and rage to the outcome. He did not understand what Gods decision was based on and this did not please him at all. Do we not relate to this story? It is often that we find ourselves doing good but not receiving the favor we had expected from God in return. Isn't it unfair for us to demand favor from God at the time when we want it.

God was able to confront Cain and asked why he was angry, explaining that if he does right he would be accepted but if not, the consequence would be sin. Cain and Abel went out to the fields afterwards and it is said that Abel was murdered by his brother; this became the first murder of the world. Envy and jealous bred destruction within Cain, which led to the murder of a righteous man who was living Gods will and one who God was pleased with.
