When people think of Callaway most of the time, one name pops into their head. The BIG BERTHA. In 1991 Callaway created the "Big Bertha" Driver, an oversized driver named for the huge gun used by the Germans during World War I to drop shells on Paris from six miles away. The principle behind Callaway's creation of the metal wood driver was that it put more weight around the perimeter of the head of the club, resulting in a thinner face. According to Callaway, this gave the golfer a greater "feel" at the time of impact with the ball. Moreover, the golfer did not have to hit the ball precisely on the button to obtain directional control and good distance. Soon golfers were swearing by them, and sales surpassed all the other brands of golf clubs made in America.

The Callaway Golf Big Bertha Diablo is an all titanium driver with a new technology called "Edge" that provides a very high MOI and positions the CG for very easy to launch, and very easy to control ball flights. The Edge technology gives the club a squarish look, but you will get over it in a hurry once you see how many more fairways you are hitting with this driver. Their Hyperbolic Face Technology is designed for maximum distance that was first seen in the X series drivers a few years ago. Available in a Neutral and Draw version, the Callaway Golf Diablo driver can be found in even some of gulfs better player's bags.

I had a chance to spend a little time with this driver recently and have been very impressed by the numbers. Numbers you ask? Distance and Fairways! I hit the ball very straight with this driver, and actually picked up a few yards. Trust me, a few extra yards are a big deal and easily noticeable with all the drivers I test! The shape is a little odd to look at, but the results made me forget about that in a hurry.

I was very surprised at how the ball jumped off the face, and with the Neutral version that I tested, was even more surprised that I could actually work the ball with this club. High, Low, Draw, and even a Fade! Players of all skill levels will love this driver, and for those who have a bit of a slice, the Draw version should help to straighten you out!
