Calls For Bed Bugs Rise A Whopping 300 Percent In South Florida

, calls to report bed bugs are on the rise in a radical way. In fact, some pest control companies say their calls for bed bugs are up a whopping 300 percent from this time in 2011.

In fact, one company in Southwest Florida reports 60 to 70 calls per day for these nuisances that are attracted to anything from bedding to mattresses, couches, box springs, and even suitcases. You can even find bed bugs in cracks and crevices of shelving units, doorways, wood cabinetry, book cases, and wall units.

As a homeowner, you may ask yourself, Well how did they get there? I keep a clean home. Truth is, bed bugs dont really discriminate, although its easier to spot them if you routinely dust shelving, vacuum carpets and rugs, and wash bedding (mattress covers and comforters too) in hot water.

Bed bugs essentially travel on fabrics such as suitcases and mattresses. They can even get on your clothing. Nationwide reports indicate bed bug infestations are a widespread problem throughout the United States, invading everything from hotel rooms to hospitals, to homes and university dorm rooms. So how do we fix this ever-growing problem?

First and foremost, routine pest control should be an investment for every homeowner. Having an exterminator come out a couple times a year can go a long way in preventing a real problem. Bed bugs and termites cannot be treated by over-the-counter, store-bought products from a home goods store or home depot. They must be treated by a trained professional.
