Campervans for Glastonbury 2011

For those looking for a different experience at Glastonbury this year a VW Campervan might be the answer. If you want to see some of the best live music in the UK without staying in a tent, or paying expensive B&B rates, VW camper hirers or owners can book space in the campervan/caravan area. These extra tickets are payable when you pay the balance on your festival ticket purchase. No more will your fellow festival goers fall on top of your tent and you'll have your own dry bed and cooking facilities.

As you'll have more space than the average tent camper, you can bring more of your home comforts - what about your feather duvet and favourite pillow? Or more changes of clothes as you don't have to carry everything from your car to the campsite. If you are clever, you can also bring in food and bottled water supplies, which means you won't have to buy so much on-site which reduces the cost of the weekend overall, as buying breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as snacks and drinks every day adds up to a significant amount of money.

Glastonbury is one of the best managed music festivals in the UK and you need to plan ahead in order to take your VW camper along to the festival. UK customers can buy campervan tickets after 1st April 2011. Glastonbury itself this year takes place between Wednesday 22nd and Sunday 26th June, and campervans will be allowed onsite once the gates open, which last year was on the Tuesday afternoon. There were two campervan areas last year and it is likely there will be again, and you will need to check which one you have been allocated to.

Possibly the only downside of the Glastonbury campervan facilities is the lack of electricity, but on the plus side you'll get water, waste-water containers, toilets, and a food trader open 24 hours a day.

So what are the other general rules you should follow in order to have a great time and reduce hassle?

Display your campervan pass clearly

Levelling blocks might be needed as the space you are allocated might not be flat - these are not provided

Get to know your neighbours, they will look out for your campervan whilst you are away

Take plenty of bin bags useful for covering feet or you if there's the traditional mud, storing your muddy clothes or boots and also the rubbish at the end of the weekend.

Take a torch if you will be coming back after dark.

Glass is not allowed anywhere on the festival site, so don't bring any spirits or beer in bottles with you

Festivals and campervans are a great combination.
